Ted Cruz Asks Jim Carrey for Copy of His Portrait Depicting Him In Hell

Ted Cruz has asked Jim Carrey for a copy of his latest portrait that likens the senator to the devil. Carrey caught Cruz's attention on Monday after he shared an image of his latest painting on Twitter. In the portrait, Cruz is surrounded by flames. His mouth is contorted in what appears to be a scream and his face is painted in red.

“Ted Cruz, Hellbound Class of 2020,” Carrey captioned the image.

Cruz was quick to respond.

“Hey @JimCarrey can I get a copy of this for my office?” he tweeted.

Carrey has profiled various celebrities and political figures in his artwork. He has grown notorious for tackling controversial topics head-on with his art and recently took a swipe at President Donald Trump in a painting that mocked him for the number of COVID-19 deaths across the country.

The image shared to Twitter shows the Grim Reaper with its back to Trump’s face. The Reaper is holding its middle finger up.

“GRIM REAPER OFFICIALLY JEALOUS OF TRUMP AND GOP’S ABILITY TO DOUBLE THE DEATH RATE,” Carrey wrote at the bottom of the painting.

In April, he also posted artwork depicting Trump chugging a container of the stain-removing cleaner Shout. Carrey tweeted: “Trump’s next medical breakthrough: ‘Want COVID out? SHOUT IT OUT!'”

In a 2019 interview with Vulture, Carrey opened up about his art, stating that “you just have to go your way and say your piece and your truth and that’s what I’ve been trying to do.”

He added: “Art is a very vulnerable, open soft spot, and you lay yourself open to be criticized, ripped apart, told you should stay in your lane, and I’ve never believed in lanes.”
