Game of Thrones: George RR Martin’s ‘pretty cool’ news amid Winds of Winter wait | Books | Entertainment

The author is the brains behind A Song of Ice and Fire, the literary saga that inspired the Game of Thrones TV show. After the show – which overtook the books’ storylines some years ago – came to an end last month, focus has returned to Martin and his plight to finish the next instalment, The Winds of Winter. While the wait for a release date continues, he’s been given a huge honour for the joy he has brought fans worldwide.

Martin took to his Not A Blog site to announce that he’s been inducted to the Hall of Fame in New Jersey.

He’s in great company: Martha Stewart, Seinfeld star Jason Alexander and rockstars Southside Johnny and The Smithereens are also on the list.

Martin wrote: “Very pleased to announce that I am being inducted into the Hall of Fame!

“No, not the one in Canton, nor the one in Cooperstown. Not the halls in Cleveland or Seattle either.

“Come October, I am being inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.”

He added: “So… pretty cool, I think. Southside Johnny, the great great NY Giants Bart Oates and Harry Carson, Peter Benchley, Jason Alexander, and all sorts of other great folks will be joining the Hall with me as well.

“And the list of previous inductees is pretty amazing too. I mean, hey, the Boss!

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

“Though I’ve lived in New Mexico since 1979, I was born and raised in Bayonne, and New Jersey will always be a part of me.

“And now it would seem that I will always be a part of New Jersey as well. Not bad for a kid from the projects.”

As yet there is still no release date for The Winds of Winter, but Martin recently indicated that it should be out by summer 2020.

Meanwhile, viewers of the TV show have rekindled their love of the books amid claims the HBO programme served up a very disappointing final season.
